The Foundations certificate is a 200 hour teacher training program designed as a flexible program that can be completed in as little as 9 months or as long as two years. In 2022 and 2023, trainees will have the option to complete it as a fully virtual training or a hybrid virtual/in-person training.
The curriculum is divided into 3 components:
The 200-hour program is registered with Yoga Alliance. Upon successful completion of the program, you’ll receive a 200-hour certificate. You’ll have the option to register with Yoga Alliance at the 200-hour level.
The curriculum is divided into 4 components:
Enrollment is open for the cohort beginning in September 2022.
Early enrollment rates are in effect until August 1, 2022, at which time they will increase by $200.
Enrollment fees include the training core and virtual courses only. Electives are an additional cost. Virtual courses range from $288-$388 for early enrollment. Residential immersions range from $2500-$4500 depending on location and room type.
We have a limited number of partial scholarships available for the enrollment fees. Please reach out to us at school@janetstoneyoga.com to request this option.
Students who complete the 200-hour program will receive a teacher training certificate from Janet Stone Yoga that meets Yoga Alliance standards.
The prerequisites for the 200-hour are at least one year of yoga practice and study and a keen interest in exploring the philosophical and devotional aspects of practice alongside asana.
See the detailed content above for full details regarding the core requirements and elective options. Generally, the core curriculum includes 85 hours of virtual courses + 35 hours of synchronous learning, which includes a range of live virtual discussion sessions, practices, and peer group assignments.
Beyond that, you can choose from in-person and virtual courses totaling 80 or more hours.
Live sessions include any virtual practices, live discussions and guest teachers for the training program, and discussion sessions for the specific virtual courses offered. We require everyone to attend at least 25 live sessions. While you'll have access to recordings of all of the sessions offered, only live attendance in real time counts for those 25 sessions.
You'll have access to Janet's virtual membership upon enrollment and for 18 months from the course start date. Live practices are typically offered at: 9 am pacific on Saturdays, 6:15 pm pacific on Mondays, 5 pm pacific on Tuesdays and 8:30 am pacific on Thursdays. You do not need to be able to make all of these times, but it's good if at least one of them aligns with your awake and free time schedule.
Live sessions for the teacher training and individual virtual courses are usually offered at 10 am pacific or 3 pm/3:30 pm pacific during the work week. We try to schedule these so that some work for Europe/Africa timezones and others work for Asia/Australia/New Zealand timezones.
Right after the official training start date, we'll gather some information from each person in the training to help us match folks up with their group. We ask about your interests, work-style preferences (e.g., do you prefer a steady schedule or to go with the flow), and location.
From there, we'll match you with a group of ~4 others and a mentor who will support you through the program.
It will take a minimum of six months to complete your 300 hour certification, and you have up to two years to finish.
Are the electives included?
Electives are not included in the enrollment fees or the core curriculum. You can choose your own electives to fulfill the 80 required hours of electives and you'll enroll and pay for those separately.

Janet is an extremely wise and knowledgeable teacher who really lives the teachings. Her many years of experience shine through the course materials as well as how she responds to questions. I learned so much over the course of the training and I can say it has been personally transformational for me.
