Overview

Fear. Anxiety. Anticipation. Longing. Love. Frustration. Hope.

Whatever you are holding, carrying, or feeling, I invite to bring it all. Every emotion is fuel for the practices of bhakti. We put them in the gas tank as fuel, to nourish our deeper intentions. So, let’s gather together, face in one direction (inward) together, and call to our infinite capacity of love, grace, fierceness, diligence.

Bhakti can be a solace and a window into the clarity so many of us are craving during this time.

Bring alive and learn the ancient mantras, purāṇas (myths),and deities all while chanting from the heart.

The practices of bhakti are the practices of loving what is, embracing it fully (even if our impulse toward it is one of aversion) and transmuting it—grief, ugliness, passion, grasping, joy—into a force for presence and being with what is.

We will explore

  • Mantra and meaning
  • How to lead chanting
  • Stories of the deities/aspects of the self we invoke through chanting
  • What devotion means in our own lives
  • Expression through sound and voice
  • English translations of Sanskrit chants
  • Intention and sound

Who This Is For

  • Dedicated yoga practitioners who feel the calling to go deeper, integrating the philosophy of yoga into their daily life & practice
  • Yoga teachers who want to deepen their practice of bhakti, and share it in their own teaching
  • Those who have trained to teach, but want to gain a more complete grasp of the heart of yoga before beginning to teach
  • Anyone who wishes who live from a sense of devotion and express that in the world

Janet Stone

Janet’s studentship began at 17 under the meditation teachings of Prem Rawat. His reverence for simplicity and finding joy in the rise and fall of life live on in her practice and teaching today. In 1996, she traveled to India, the birthplace of her grandfather, and became dedicated to the path of yoga. Janet blends the alchemy of her own practice with decades of studentship. She aspires not to teach but to allow the practice to emanate from her, letting awareness blend with movement and breath. Based in Bali and San Francisco, she leads immersions, retreats, workshops and more.

FAQS

How is thE training setup?

We are using an intuitive, yet robust learning platform, called Mighty Networks. Upon enrollment, you should have received several invitations to join the spaces for your training program and the courses that are part of it. Everyone will have a training hub with your curriculum and requirements and the teacher training community (which includes all programs and all cohorts).

How can I review my program requirements?

Every program has a training hub. There, you'll find a few different overviews of your requirements, including a training packet and a checklist (designed to print or use with a pdf markup app). You'll also see the forms you'll submit as you finish each required course or activity.

I'm missing a course in my account. How can I add it?

We'll send an email in response to your training application. There, we'll answer any questions you asked in your application and share a list of your training spaces, with links to add them.

I chose the electives option. How can I find out which electives I can choose?

The pages for the electives programs will stay up-to-date as we add new electives. You can see dates and number of elective hours for each option there:
200 hour: https://www.janetstoneyoga.com/school/200-hour-electives
300 hour: https://www.janetstoneyoga.com/school/300-hour-electives

note: if you are in the fully virtual or residential hybrid option, you won't have any electives.

How Should I structure my time for Virtual Courses?

We recommend setting aside one day as your deep dive day. Courses are set up with weekly modules (if you have 40 Days of Practice, that's the only exception, with 10 day modules). On your deep dive day, you can plan to spend 1-2 hours. You'll watch a dharma talk or overview video for the week in that time, and you can review the practices offered. It's a good time to plan how you'll integrate the practices throughout the week.

When you are planning your week of practice, truly consider the context of your life. If you only have 15 minutes, plan for a 15 minute practice. If you can establish a pattern of daily practice (even if some days are 5 minutes of meditation, and a mantra you have queued up, then that's a practice).

I lost my momentum, how can I resume

We're here for you, and we've been there, too. Jump into the next course that's being offered in your curriculum (see https://www.janetstoneyoga.com/ for the calendar of courses) or finish the one that you started and only have a little left. It's okay—returning is what matters.

I have questions. How can I get answers, help, or regroup?

You can email us (see below), join a study hall with Connie, post your question in your training curriculum, or DM us (Connie) in the Mighty Network.

Where can I find upcoming study halls and other live offerings?

Once you have added all of your courses and spaces, your events calendar (https://school.janetstoneyoga.com/events) in the Mighty Network will include any upcoming live events for you.

Who can I email if my question wasn’t answered here?

Email school@janetstoneyoga.com if you have other questions.

FAQ

How is this course setup?
We are using an intuitive, yet robust learning platform, called Mighty Networks. When you register and pay for the course, you’ll receive a personalized link to the course.

Will I get access to everything at once?
In order to provide a container for this practice and process, one lesson will be covered each week for 6 weeks. As soon as you sign up, you’ll get access to introductory lectures and practices that will thread through the entire course.

I live in a different timezone (or country or continent)? Will I be able to participate in the course?
The course is setup so that it works for individuals no matter where they live in the world. New content will be released each week, and you can work through the practices, videos and exercises at your own pace. We also have a community space within the course for ongoing connection and discussion.

Do I need a harmonium for this course?
You do not need a harmonium for the course. The course includes over 50 videos, including 4-5 basic harmonium lessons. In other words, most of the course can be done a cappella and via personal practice, and the harmonium lessons are relevant even without a harmonium.

Yes. Each section has a movement practice.

How much time should I plan to spend each week?
Each weekly module includes ~8 videos that range from 5-30 minutes each. In addition, you’ll have readings and personal reflections that take about an hour over the course of the week.

Each week, you’ll also get approximately 20-30 minutes of asana and several new chants. You could choose to every part of the practice every day (for a daily one hour practice) or to mix and match pieces if time is more limited.

Can I rewatch or review content from earlier weeks?
Yes, absolutely. Once content for a week is unlocked, you will have access to that in the future. You can return to the course at any time and you’ll receive any updates to the curriculum for future course releases as well.

In what circumstances can I get a refund?
The course is non-refundable, since you get lifetime access to the content. If you have serious extenuating circumstances, email school@janetstoneyoga.com and we’ll discuss options.

How do I request a sliding scale rate or apply for a partial scholarship? Or How do I know if I qualify for these options?
We trust that each individual knows their current and historical financial experience best. Sliding scale rates are readily available to you if the options make it feasible for you to join us. If the sliding scale rates feel like a financial stretch, we invite you to request a partial scholarship. The request form is quick and easy and will direct you to the scholarship payment options.
