The Art of Teaching

Teaching yoga is both a science and an art. It asks us to understand both the physical and subtle bodies, to sequence with both form and freedom, and to assist a whole person.

In this 3 course series, we'll explore the Art of Teaching.

Teaching yoga is about how deeply you inhabit what you practice. This pathway can transform how you show up in a room.

The path begins with the ground: alignment not as a set of rules, but as an expression of vitality and ease. Energetic Alignment explores how inner experience shapes outer form — mapping the prana vayus through the physical body, and teaching you to sequence from that energetic understanding rather than from convention alone. From there, Intuitive Sequencing picks up the thread, inviting you to trust your own knowing as you craft classes that move like a story — coherent, alive, responsive to what's in the room. By the time you arrive at Art of Assisting, you've built a foundation in your own body that touch becomes a natural extension of everything you've studied: listening, presence, and compassionate support expressed through your hands.

This pathway is for teachers who are ready to stop teaching from memory and start teaching from presence. It's for practitioners who want to understand the deeper grammar of the practice they love. And it's for anyone who has sensed that something shifts — in themselves, and in their students — when a teacher brings full awareness into the room.

This concentration offers 75 hours of study through 3 distinct courses:

  • Energetic Alignment: An exploration of the subtle body, especially through the pancha vayus
  • Intuitive Sequencing: Sequencing as Story
  • Art of Assisting: an exploration of compassionate and wise assists

The courses are presented in an on-demand format that blends community connection.

This program is designed to support you in integrating the practices of ayurveda into your life, yoga practice and teaching.

FAQS

How is thE training setup?

We are using an intuitive, yet robust learning platform, called Mighty Networks. Upon enrollment, you should have received several invitations to join the spaces for your training program and the courses that are part of it. Everyone will have a training hub with your curriculum and requirements and the teacher training community (which includes all programs and all cohorts).

How can I review my program requirements?

Every program has a training hub. There, you'll find a few different overviews of your requirements, including a training packet and a checklist (designed to print or use with a pdf markup app). You'll also see the forms you'll submit as you finish each required course or activity.

I'm missing a course in my account. How can I add it?

We'll send an email in response to your training application. There, we'll answer any questions you asked in your application and share a list of your training spaces, with links to add them.

I chose the electives option. How can I find out which electives I can choose?

The pages for the electives programs will stay up-to-date as we add new electives. You can see dates and number of elective hours for each option there:
200 hour: https://www.janetstoneyoga.com/school/200-hour-electives
300 hour: https://www.janetstoneyoga.com/school/300-hour-electives

note: if you are in the fully virtual or residential hybrid option, you won't have any electives.

How Should I structure my time for Virtual Courses?

We recommend setting aside one day as your deep dive day. Courses are set up with weekly modules (if you have 40 Days of Practice, that's the only exception, with 10 day modules). On your deep dive day, you can plan to spend 1-2 hours. You'll watch a dharma talk or overview video for the week in that time, and you can review the practices offered. It's a good time to plan how you'll integrate the practices throughout the week.

When you are planning your week of practice, truly consider the context of your life. If you only have 15 minutes, plan for a 15 minute practice. If you can establish a pattern of daily practice (even if some days are 5 minutes of meditation, and a mantra you have queued up, then that's a practice).

I lost my momentum, how can I resume

We're here for you, and we've been there, too. Jump into the next course that's being offered in your curriculum (see https://www.janetstoneyoga.com/ for the calendar of courses) or finish the one that you started and only have a little left. It's okay—returning is what matters.

I have questions. How can I get answers, help, or regroup?

You can email us (see below), join a study hall with Connie, post your question in your training curriculum, or DM us (Connie) in the Mighty Network.

Where can I find upcoming study halls and other live offerings?

Once you have added all of your courses and spaces, your events calendar (https://school.janetstoneyoga.com/events) in the Mighty Network will include any upcoming live events for you.

Who can I email if my question wasn’t answered here?

Email school@janetstoneyoga.com if you have other questions.

There are no formal prerequisites, but individuals with at least 6 months of steady yoga practice will get the most out of this offering.

What if I finish this certification and want to continue with one of Janet's teacher training programs?

You can absolutely apply the courses to Janet's training programs after the fact. email Connie for details on which teacher training program is the best fit and for info on how to apply the hours.

How long does the program take?

It's designed as 17 week series, but many will spend a bit more time (we all get busy sometimes). Once you are enrolled, you have ongoing access, so you can take 17 weeks or 17 months to finish, and you can revisit the content even after you have completed the courses.
