I’ve been teaching/assisting: since 2017
I grew up in Idaho, but have spent my adult life in California mostly. I had a long career in the corporate world managing creative teams; this has allowed me to pursue my interests in yoga, writing, art, and traveling.
I am most experienced in:
Equal parts: modern vinyasa asana, pranayama, meditation, philosophy. I very much believe in the eight-fold path of yoga.
I've studied yoga philosophy for many years and teach workshops in meditation and pranayama theory and practice. I love comparing and contrasting different translations of the Yoga Sutras and The Bhagavad Gita.
I'm also an experienced writer: poetry, fiction, playwriting, non-fiction. I like public speaking too.
I am committed to studying and deepening my practice in…
Yamas, niyamas, asana, pranayama, pratyahara, dharana, dhyana. . . and maybe someday touching and sustaining samadhi, and holding it for more than a few seconds.
I have a daily meditation and pranayama practice, and 3-5 times/week asana practice.
My mentoring style or approach is…
I have a threefold approach to mentoring, honed over many years of mentoring people in professional settings mostly.
First, I believe in discovering and leveraging strengths. There's no need to focus on deficiencies or shortcomings when we are all blessed with such strengths as to completely render any perceived weaknesses as completely insignificant, especially as we're trying to accomplish something meaningful.
Second and closely related: I believe in positive reinforcement. I'll never point out what you're doing wrong. I WILL hold up a mirror for you so you can see what you're doing right.
Third, I believe in baby steps, setting small goals. These add up, and we don't need to be afraid of goals, because there's always a goal that is small enough that it's easily accomplished. That accomplishment makes us hungry for another goal. Sometimes the goal can be "just show up."
I guess there's one more--I ask that mentees set the agenda. Every time we're in dialogue, it's for you. I'm here to serve.
